What is Art? Why is it Necessary?

From Altamira to the present, man, who has consciously combined objective reality with subjective reality or aesthetically with subconscious concepts in order to understand his life, existence and self, has created the phenomenon of "Art" and transformed it into a social reality.

Throughout the ages, the artist has reconstructed life in a way that will be admired in his visual memory, in other words, in an aesthetic way, with the rhythmic, balanced and harmonious work of his mind and emotions. This aesthetic fiction has been on the stage since the existence of man and has continued to be fictionalized in a universal dimension in a process parallel to world history.

Ayla Ersoy "It is a synthesis in which the artist creates his impressions of the outer world with his inner feelings.” he says for art. (Art Criticism, artes:17)

İnci Sanaccording to art; “Emphasizes the reciprocal and intertwined connection between emotion and thought” (Artistic creation, Creativity in children, İş Bankası:1)

Thomas MunroAccording to; “Art is the ability to create impulses to create satisfying aesthetic experiences.”, he expresses an opinion that supports the involuntary choice of the "beautiful" one by the human perception of vision.

On the concept of beauty that art awakens for everyone, Dostoevsky said "Beauty will save the universe" and emphasized the important role of beauty on people and society.

Art, as explained by countless definitions, is a way of life that the mind and emotion enter in order to understand the reality of human and life, to feel the beautiful, and to announce, show and feel the beautiful. Art is art for everyone. It is created by the artist with nuances that all beings can perceive with the same aesthetic understanding.

Since the day he learned that the rock that rolled on him would kill him, he has learned to live, to shelter, to feed his body and even to feed his soul with his instincts. Desiring to leave his mark, he painted the walls and drank his wine in jugs carved with animal figures. All of this was achieved when people who want to feel beautiful want to integrate the beauties they see in nature with themselves. It is impossible to separate art from people.

Marx"Art is almost as old as humans” Then, besides the universal process of art, "Why have we been making art since we exist"? It raises the question in mind.

Lace, "Art has no purpose outside of itself.. His only purpose is himself. Only genius can create fine art,” he says.

Plato ise “Art reflects the world of the senses”. "Art cannot take one beyond opinion, only philosophers understand the truth," he says. Again, he explained the purpose of art in a very different way in his teaching "Art stirs up emotions and drives people away from rationality". (History of Philosophy; Prof. Macit Gökberk; Remzi Bookstore)

Sitki Erinc“There are two reasons why people create art, and the first of them is; To bring into daily life some of the entities, phenomena and processes that he fears, considers terrible, and imposes a mystery, to make them ordinary and to minimize the fear and mystery, and the other is to teach the next generations something and pass on information to them.” says. (Introduction to the Sociology of Art, Utopia,7)

These different windows to art never deny its necessity. Regardless of its purpose, it is necessary to understand art, life and human reality, to transform people into a thinking individual, to evaluate social realities critically, and to be a polyphonic society.

Works of art, which reflect the changing human being with the changing ages and thus the world history to us in the most aesthetic way, is the only requirement of the artist throughout his life. Because the artist is fed not with his body but with his soul and he is in an effort to create immortal works like his soul.

The famous Ephesian philosopher Heraclitus suggested that everything in nature is in constant change: The universe is a process that flows throughout, it is a change with an end and an end, there is nothing that never stops, stays in this change, goes on. “Panta Rei” everything flows. This is his main view. “You cannot bathe in the same river twice. When we enter for the second time, this river is a completely different river. Meanwhile, the flowing waters have made it another river.” This is the case wherever we think there is "the same thing" before us. Our assumption that there are permanent things is because change is not without rules, but according to a certain order, a certain measure and law. This measure, this law, Heraclitus calls "logos". Law, order and reason (logos) dominate the universe. (History of Philosophy; Prof. Macit Gökberk; Remzi Bookstore)

Art is the only stimulus that remains unchanged in the universe against the flow doctrine of Heraclitus, because it is a reflection of the changing universe.

In the dark periods when man lived for the other world he did not know, stimuli that would awaken human feelings were forbidden. It was forbidden because the only real thing that a society living with art will transform into is individuals who think freely and live their lives with all their beauties in their own paradise. Art fearlessly makes people live with their whole being and all their emotions. Because life is the reason for His creation.

Art, whose only source of nourishment is human and nature, illuminates societies and provides the necessity of living a beautiful life in the most aesthetic way. For years, the mission of fine arts is to reach the beautiful, to see the beautiful, to live and to let it live. Because the artist's most important source of life is not water, but water and perceiving the taste of water while drinking it.
